We are Our Actions?

.

I’ve been recently reading a new book related to personal development. The author is really blunt and exciting. His outlook on why we do what we do and what holds us back is always approached with vigor and grace. In one of the chapters he discusses how our brains can obsess over a topic so long that we trick ourselves into thinking we are passionate about it, yet we never put any actual action into making that passion a reality. He talked about how the brain will come up with tons of imaginary roadblocks that we give into simply by not acting.

.

An example, is a person who says and feels they are passionate about opening a clothing store that caters to all the latest fashion trends, but never takes action because they feel the money is their biggest obstacle. This train of thought goes on for more than a decade. So, is this person really passionate about that clothing store or are they more passionate about their story about why it’s not possible? This got me thinking about so many things that I like to think I am interested in but if I really were, wouldn’t I work on them, even just for a little each day?

.

We ultimately have the lives that we are willing to have. If we want more, we have to be willing to act; along with positive thinking. Its not possible to be passionate about losing 10 pounds for more than a year, when specific action would get that done in a little over a month. Its not possible to be passionate about career advancement for decades without staying at one job longer than a year or two.

.

Basically, the book is about being honest with ourselves about what we are actually putting into our passions and whether or not we can truly call them passions if we aren’t willing to put any actions towards them. Our actions not how much we obsess over something, tell us who we are or what we are willing to do to achieve a goal. I see clearly some areas where I have not been willing to put in the necessary action. With new found honesty I can decide if what I have been thinking about is what I truly want.

.

Something to ponder…

.

Have an amazing Thursday beautiful people!
