7 Reasons Why I Love Being An Author

There is nothing like the feeling that comes along with following your heart an doing something you love. I have always been a writer and when I decided to become a professional author it was the best decision I have ever made (besides having children). If you're thinking about becoming an author or following any dream you have, for that matter, check out my list of 7 reasons why I love being an author.
1. I set my own schedule. This has to be by far my favorite. Since I home-school my daughters and only teach twice a week, I have plenty of time to get writing done. I think Mondays are our favorite day of the week. I wake early, think about how grateful I am that we have nowhere to be and I snuggle into the couch with my computer. We have all of our outings during the day time hours so there is never traffic, we travel often and no lines at museums.
2. I get to play make-believe for a living. I love to come up with far-fetched stories that take my readers on a wild ride. I watch quite a bit of mystery tv shows and movies, they fuel my desire to write. Day-to-day life can be mundane, but I get to escape into crazy characters and unpredictable endings. My stories enrich my life.
3. I am a role-model. My daughters look to me for guidance on a daily basis. I took my dream seriously because I want them to take their seriously too. I want them to be fearless and unbound. They think its super cool that I write books, have fans, my own website and that I get to work from home. It doesn't get any better than being your kids' hero.
4. I get to travel. One of my favorite things to do in the world is to travel. I can travel alone or with my daughters and have an amazing time. I like to meet new people and experience new cultures. With writing I go to out of town conventions and even new countries for inspiration. I always feel that travel is a part of the job. After all, how would I write about the majestic beaches of Maui if I have never been.
5. My income is limitless. When I worked a 9 to 5 job, I mostly did so for the dependable monthly check. They only thing about that monthly check was that it was exactly the same no matter how little or how much I worked. I didn't get paid for my effort I got paid for showing up. As an author, I understand that the more I work, the more passive income I can expect. I love to make money while i'm sleeping, especially when its a result of a labor of love. I'm not confined to a specific amount of hours and pay. I make my own money rules.
6. I am leaving a written legacy. I love the idea of someone reading my books 100 years from now and enjoying them as much, if not more, than readers do today. Books live on even after we expire. I am mentored by men and women who lived more than 100 years ago. Its so important to me to leave my mark in this world and books are my way of doing just that. My great, great, great grand-kids will know who I am and what they come from through reading my books. That is so exciting.
7. I am happy! Don't ever let anyone convince you that doing something you love is a waste of time. I wrote when there was no money to be made, just for the love of it. I've taught classes for free and collaborated on some amazing projects because this is what I love. I give it away to the world generously and I am generously compensated. Not just with money but, love, friendships, connections and everything else that good in life. Time and peace are very important to me. My days are full of peaceful moments and I always have time for my daughters. I have freedom. I love when readers tell me they learned something from my books or that my books helped them through a rough patch. I am grateful for the opportunity and happy that I never gave up and didn't let anything hold me back!
